What Is Coaching?

“Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make it better.”

King Whitney Jr.

You ask me why I do not write something _ _ _ I think one’s feelings waste themselves in words, they ought to be distilled into action and into action which bring results.

Florence Nightingale

Coaching is a dynamic partnership between a client and coach focused on accomplishing extraordinary results based on what is important to the client in business, career, and life. It is a dynamic partnership of interaction, strategizing and taking action to achieve the client’s goals. Coaching focuses on the success of the client. Together we design and clarify goals, develop plans, strategies and actions to meet these goals. Most of us have a vision based on our past experiences and beliefs. These comfort zones, which we take for granted, are known as PARADIGMS. Coaching is about changing the Paradigms and exploring “other choices”. Coaching helps you look beyond the “beliefs” and create an impossible future.

Coaching is like Human GPS. Technology has given us GPS (Global Positioning System), which helps devise a road map to go from where you are to where you want to reach on the roads you travel. Coaching is a GPS in the science of personal achievement and Human Relations. Coaching helps you find the best route to go from where you are to where you want to reach in real life.
The Coach facilitates the change by initiating a dialogue and by asking questions. The coach does not prescribe the remedies. The client chooses the focus and the solutions and the action plan evolves as we progress.

The Coach hears the data you provide, such as your dreams, desires, aspirations, goals and your strengths. By asking careful and directed questions, the Coach helps you design new paradigms based on future possibilities based on a new vision. Together we create the new coordinates: one, where you are now, and two where you want to be.

As your Coach, Ravi will help you through the clutter by way of a co-created, focused action-oriented plan to overcome the obstacles. When you hit the wall Ravi will help you go around it. When you climb a hill Ravi will cheer you on to take the next step. When you race down the slopes Ravi will run alongside of you. When you reach the finish line Ravi will be there to congratulate you on your accomplishments.

The History of Coaching

I have learned that you can’t have everything and do everything at the same time.

Oprah Winfrey

O Magazine, April 2003

The profession of Coaching has been around for centuries. Kings and Emperors had Gurus. Coaching took a different form in the 20th century. With industrialization, mass production and labor movements, individual and group coaching became prominent.
However, in the 21st century coaching has taken on a more profound role. In our pursuit of happiness and “The Good Life” we have become so busy and at times so confused that we forget what is most important to us.

Coaching helps you find those answers and helps you accomplish that balance.

Fortune New York – Feb 21, 2000

“We have a lot of people who were trained to be superb managers, but now have horrendous leadership challenges thrown at them. I think a lot of coaching is aimed at trying to help people develop skills and actions that are different from what they grew up with.”

The same article further states “Another way to look at the spread of coaching is that it bridges the growing chasm between what the managers are being asked to do and what they have been trained to do. It is almost like the difference between generals in peace time and general in war, says Harvard’s Kotter.”

Why You Need Coaching

Habit is habit and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time.

Mark Twain

The human mind is not a mechanical device where digital input directs it to its coordinates like the GPS device. The human mind is influenced by its past experiences, its emotions, its biases, its hopes and dreams and its successes and failures. In short, most individuals base their coordinates of destinations on the past – Paradigms, which by themselves are limiting factors for the future. Ravi, as your Coach, focuses on your strengths, possibilities to co-develop new coordinates for your future. He helps you facilitate the changes and build bridges to cross over to your destination. Even the great Michael Jordan had a coach.

Fortune: New York Feb 21, 2000:

“Why do we need a coach?” he muses. “I’ve wrestled with this. “He’s a corporate finance partner in New Orleans. He has been Ernst for 27 years. He’s successful; he’s happy. His recent performance review was quite flattering. “Perhaps it’s for the same reason that Tiger Woods needs a coach or Pete Sampras needs a coach. “Mabry “Tiger Woods would say, “I know how to play golf.’ But his coach is probably the most important person in his life.”
